President’s Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties!

We are a group of 275 strong and tenacious women, united by our common interest in building a better community and cultivating the next generation of female civic leaders. Our mission is simple yet powerful: we promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

This past year presented us with unparalleled challenges and change. Although we could not always be together, thanks to our incredible League volunteers, we stretched our creativity and flexibility. Our members have been steadfast in their commitment to our community and their passion for service is unwavering. While our programming, events, and volunteering may have looked different because of the pandemic, the members of the Junior League and Wyandotte and Johnson Counties were pillars of strength and charity in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and community.

Over the past 87 years our members have committed their time, talent, and treasure to making our area a better place. The reach of the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties can be seen throughout our community – from the creation of the Wyandotte County Bookmoblie which became West Wyandotte Library Branch, establishing the Wyandotte House which became KVC Health Systems, collaborating to establish both the Ronald McDonald House and Sunflower House, creating a brand new food pantry for Bethel Neighborhood Center, and providing over 60 years of Children’s Theater productions to school children in the Greater Kansas City area. The Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties has gifted over $3.2 million to local area nonprofits and contributed over 2.8 million service hours to the community.

Alongside our current community partners, and through our own initiatives, we want to improve the lives of all people in our community. Our partner, Bethel Neighborhood Center serves families living or working in the West Bottoms area of Kansas City, Kansas. We provide assistance with their food pantry and work with the elementary aged children in the after-school program to provide Kids in the Kitchen programming. Our other partner, Care Beyond the Boulevard provides free compassionate medical care to the homeless and uninsured in the Kansas City metro area. We create snack packs, hygiene care packages, collect blankets, and help with donation management.
I hope you will join me in supporting this network of inspiring women leaders. Whether you choose to make a donation or join our membership, your support will ensure that we continue to strengthen our community impact and development of female civic leaders, for years to come.

With gratitude,
Lisa Quinlan
2021-2022 President
