President’s Message

Hello and welcome to the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties!

We are so glad to have you here and to welcome you to our league! The Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. We are a small, but mighty league of 25 active members and 237 amazing sustainers who have provided us with a tremendous foundation and a security that allows our smaller active membership to do far more than would be expected otherwise! Through the support of our sustainers and our 88 years of commitment to service, volunteerism, and promoting women’s development as community leaders, the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties has had a far-reaching impact on the Kansas City, Kansas community.

We have served Bethel Neighborhood Center with various programing and revamping their food pantry. We have served Care Beyond the Boulevard through packing countless hygiene kits to support the homeless in our community with hygiene and to provide medical care with dignity. Our league helped to support the creation of the Wyandotte House (which eventually became KVC Health Systems) and collaborated to help establish the Sunflower House and the Ronald McDonald House to serve children and families in the greater Kansas City area. The Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties has gifted over $3.2 million to local area nonprofits and contributed over 2.8 million service hours to the community.

We take our mission to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact seriously and we seek to ensure that everything we do is inline with that mission. Our current 2022-2025 Strategic Plan has us focusing on teens aging out of foster care as our community impact focus area. This means that our members are collaborating with our community partners, such as Cornerstones of Care and the Sunflower House to seek out volunteer and engagement opportunities for our members to help make a difference in the lives of these teens in our community. Beyond just a volunteer organization, we are a membership organization focused on advancing the potential of each of our members. Due to the more intimate nature of a smaller organization, we can truly get to know one another, to plan training and programming that fits the needs of our membership, and to provide opportunities for growth and advancement at any stage of a member’s league experience.

When I reflect on my years of membership with JLWJC, it is truly astonishing to see my own growth as a leader through each placement. I have learned so much about Johnson and Wyandotte Counties, about countless amazing area nonprofits working tirelessly to serve our communities, about the impact that fellow league members have had in so many arenas, and even about my own potential for leadership. Not long ago, I would not have believed that I was capable of many of the things that I have accomplished over the last few years as part of our board. It is inspiring to work closely with so many like-minded women who have so much knowledge, experience, and expertise to offer! It is truly an honor to represent each one of these ladies as their president.

Without the support of generous donors and the continued dedication of our members and sustainers, we would not be able to maintain the widespread impact on our community that we have enjoyed participating in for the past 88 years. I hope that you will join me in supporting our league and our community through donations, by attending or sponsoring our Community Ball and Cotillion, or by joining our league as a member! We truly appreciate your support and dedication to the Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties!

With heartfelt thanks,

Jessica Fraser
2023-2024 President
