Kids in the Kitchen

The program is an education initiative on childhood obesity and nutrition called Kids in the Kitchen. This initiative is a response to the alarming statistic that nearly one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. The goal is to raise awareness and attempt to reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. This League-wide program educates children and families about childhood obesity and nutrition.

The Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties in Kansas participated in the annual Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen.   Kids in the Kitchen had a great day at the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Taste of 500 on Friday, March 6. We helped to educate over 150 children on the importance of nutrition and exercise through activities such as food bingo, breakfast ball toss, food pyramid bean bag toss and etiquette charades. Each child received a goody bag filled with education materials, recipe booklet, bottled water, and a health and exercise "surprise".  A raffle was held to give away exercise related items.
